Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is the cause of serious disorders development in children. Polysomnography (PSG), which is considered a «gold» standard for apnea diagnosis, is often not available to patients because of financial, organizational and geographical aspects. How far can subjective examination methods replace PSG?

OBJECTIVE

Comparison of subjective data obtained with the Russian-language PSQ questionnaire and objective PSG results in children with suspicion of OSAS.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A retrospective comparative analysis of the PSQ questionnaire survey results and PSG data in 126 children aged from 2 to 14 years has been conducted.

RESULTS

The sensitivity of the PSQ questionnaire was 83.9% and the specificity was 34.4% According to the analysis. A statistically significant correlation between the PSQ mean score and the apnea/hypopnea index was found.

CONCLUSION

The Russian-language PSQ version showed a diagnostic significance in children with suspicion of OSAS.
