Mediastenitis is one of the severe life-threatening complications of dental infection. Despite the implementation of modern diagnostic and treatment methods, mortality from mediastenitis remains high.
OBJECTIVE
To improve the treatment of patients with odontogenic infection of the maxillofacial area, complicated by contact mediastenitis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS
In the maxillofacial department of the Angarsk City Hospital 9 patients with mediastenitis were treated for the period from 2015 to 2022 yr. All patients were operated upon emergency indications on the 1 day of admission to hospital with preliminary infusion.
RESULTS
The discussion of tactical issues of anesthesia and surgical treatment of contact odontogenic mediastenitis is presented. The medical discharge report of the patient is given, the inflammatory process in which had «serpiginous» character. It was extended to surrounding regions and cellular spaces against the background of young age and the absence of comorbid pathology.
CONCLUSION
Timely diagnosis and treatment, active surgical tactics with adequate drug therapy and involvement of doctors of related specialities allow to exclude or reduce the adverse outcome probability of mediastenitis.
