The review addresses the latest achievements and developments in protein biomarkers, made using antibody-based multiplex systems, namely microarray technology, which help to understand the molecular mechanism of diseases better and identify biomarkers specific to diseases, their stages, severity, and prognosis of therapy outcomes. We analyzed essential aspects related to the design of clinical trials using microarrays to select candidate markers for further study. This review aims to summarize international and Russian experience using antibody-based microarray proteomic assay technology to study protein biomarkers in clinical trials. The literature search was done in the PubMed and Russian Science Index databases. Also, the review includes published data from our own research cited in the PubMed and Science Index databases. Due to the novelty of microarray technologies, the earliest paper relevant to the topic was published in 2008. If the full text of the article was not available, abstracts were not considered for analysis.
