BACKGROUND

Searching for early sensitive markers of myocardial and renal injury in newborns is still important.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate clinical significance of microalbuminuria for the diagnosis of postoperative renal and cardiac dysfunction (cardiorenal syndrome) in newborns.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We have examined 116 newborns of therapeutic and surgical profile for 7 days.

RESULTS

There were differences in the incidence of microalbuminuria on the first day after surgical correction (χ²=4.7, p=0.042). Renal albumin loss is 3.1 times more common in surgical group than in somatic group (OR 3.1, 95% CI 1.7; 39) in the absence of creatininuria at admission (χ²=7.8, p=0.007).

CONCLUSION

Transient microalbuminuria in newborns can be considered as an indicator of surgical stress. Microalbuminuria is not pathognomonic. This phenomenon is associated with increased renal filter permeability following hyperfiltration under infusion therapy.
