An open controlled study of efficacy of calcium D3 (nikomed) in correction of osteopenia was performed in 55 osteopenia patients with bronchial asthma (mean age 48.9±1.19 years. Mineral density of bone tissue was measured by the method of two-energy x-ray absorptiometry in ultradistal and mediodistal antebrachial parts using the device DexaScan DX-10 (Direx). The study group of 32 patients received calcium in a daily dose of 1000 mg and 400 IU of cholecalciferol as 2 tablets of nikomed. The control group of 23 patients was not given nikomed. The examination after 6 months registered a 2.6±0.83% increase in the bone mass in the ultradistal part, a 2.31±0.49% in the mediodistal part of the forearm in the study group and decreased bone density in the controls (by 4.95±0.46% and 2.48±0.84%). Nikomed relieved pain syndrome, had no side effects. Thus, nikomed should be included in the program of osteoporosis prophylaxis in patients with bronchial asthma.
